Tomato, Basil and Feta Cheese Salad

This salad is exactly what it says on the tin, but it has to be one of the best side dishes out there. I don’t know what it is about freshly picked tomatoes, sweet basil and soft strong feta, but combined they are a match made in heaven. The tomatoes and the basil were freshly picked from my mum’s allotment, although you will see from the pictures that there were also a lot of green tomatoes that we weren’t quote able to pick yet. I have to say I am quite jealous of all the fresh produce she has right at her finger tip, our little window sill doesn’t seem to get enough sun to even grow a small chilli plant, and we have been trying for two years! If you are so lucky as to have a great garden then you must give this ‘grow it yourself’ salad a try and I promise you will never get bored of eating it.

–          Selection of tomatoes – halved or sliced, depending on the size

–          A large handful of basil – torn

–          Feta cheese – crumbled

–          Drizzle of good quality extra virgin olive oil

–          Twist black pepper

Toss together the tomatoes, basil and pesto and finish with a drizzle of oil and a twist of black pepper and there you have a beautiful salad.

  1. As simple as it is, the combination of tomato, basil and feta (or mozzarella) is one of my favorites! I was hoping to have a lot of this fresh dish this summer… I added tomatoes to my container garden this year, unfortunately it’s struggled and only produced 3 tiny tomatoes. 🙂

  2. We often make a similar salad with watermelon, feta, basil, and a drizzle of balsamic. Our garden is now bursting with tomatoes and basil, and we have some nice feta in the fridge. We’ll give this a try this weekend.

  3. Yum. This is definitely one of my favorite salads. With a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar, how could you go wrong?
